1 - Skills Circle
Organisation
x's stand outside of the circle. Players with a ball dribble into the middle perform a skill in the small circle and then dribble
out to find a player without a ball.
Variations on how to get from the outside to the inside:
1) Just a pass
2) Take
3) One two
4) Overlap
5) Foot on
 
Progressions
Add two passive defenders. Then progress to defenders being active.
 
Duration
10 - 20- minutes. Dependant upon how much time you have available.

2 - DEFENDING CIRCLE
 
Organisation
 
Create a big circle and within it create a small circle. Orgainse players into pairs. Get one player to stand on the outside of the circle, with their parter standing on the outside of the inside circle. Attackers stand on the outside of the circle with the ball. Objective is to dribble past their partner and into the middle circle. Defenders objective is to regain possessin and dribble the ball anywheer on the outside of the circle.
 
Progressions
2 v2 or 3 v3
 
Duration
10 - 20- minutes. Dependant upon how much time you have available.

- Position ( sideways on, knee's bent, arms out, eyes on the ball )

3 - DEFENDING POSITION
 
Organisation
 
Organise players into pairs. get one player to stand on the end line with a bal. Have the other player stand around one yard away. objective is for the attcker to dribble the ball down to the opposite end line and the defender to jocky the attacker all the way. Initailly not touching the football.
 
Progressions
 
Allow the defenders to make small touches on the football and then maybe progress to a 1 v 1 to end line.

10 minutes

- Movement of feet in relation to the ball

4 - DEFENDING 3 v 3 Pressure /Cover /Balance
 
Organisation
 
- 3 v 3 to end line
- Game starts with one team passing into the other team. On the first touch of the player receiving the ball the game is live.
 
Progressions
Bring in Goalkeepers to make it more game related.

10 -15 minutes

Coaching points

- 1st man pressure. See how x1 pressures the ball
- Position. When the 1st defender pressures the ball encourage them to get into the defending position.
- 2nd Man cover. x2 needs to stand behind x1 and split x4 and x5. This protects the team if x4 beats x1
- Balance. See how x3 lies a liitle deaper to the left off x2 and thus provides balance and shape to the defensive three.
- Communication. Making sure you are telling each other what your role is.
 
 
5 - DEVELOPING A 3 - 2 - 1 MINI SOCCER FORMATION
 
Organisation
 
- Use half a pitch
- Play two units against each other. So three defenders against two strikers and two midfielders facing up.
- One Goalkeeper and support player who starts the game and then joins in.
- Attacking team score in the goal. Defending team score by running the ball through the wide orange goals.
 
* Starting position

- Have your striker play the ball into GK's arms.
- As soon as this happens you want either wide defender to create an option by getting wide

- Add a striker

- 15 to 25 minutes

6 - BREAKAWAY SHOOTING
 
Organisation
 
- Mark out a 25 yard by 20 yard area
- Two goalkeepers
- Have the rest of the players standing by the cones marked out

- Objective is to dribble the ball towards the Goalkeeper and attempt to score.
- Once the player has finished they join the back of the other line.
- Both lines work at the sametime
 
Progressions
- Bring in a time constraint
- Then add a passive defender
- Then an active defender
* This all based on how the needs of the players and how they are performing
 
Duration
- 10 - 15 minutes
